The only Tour Guide you should use
The guide was the best ever. He had inside knowledge that you could not get from anyone else. He knew a number of the real people and had driven a number of the actors during their time there. He also has an aunt who worked for the vet, Alf Wight (the real James Herriot). The real Tricki Woo is laid to rest in his Mother-in-Law's yard. His name is Alan.

Soak up the gorgeous Yorkshire scenery
This tour provides a comfortable and interesting way to see the beautiful scenery of the Yorkshire Dales. The guide was very knowledgeable and there were a good number of stops with plenty of time allowed to explore. Highly recommended!

Yorkshire/Herriot Tour even better than high expectations
Our guide was the best, full of knowledge and expressing it in a concise, clear manner. Many helpful tips as well.

The Yorkshire Dales were even more spectacular than I expected and I was thankful the view from the bus was over the dry stone walls. Walking in between those walls down to Linton Falls was a treat and as a life long James Herriot fan, standing in front of the fictional Skeldale House used in Grassington for the second series was almost surreal.

We enjoyed learning about the history of the area as well as stories from James Herriot's All Creatures Great and Small. Our guide was knowledgeable and personable. We enjoyed our day immensely and highly recommended this private 'All Creatures Great and Small' Yorkshire Dales tour!

James Herriot and Yorkshire Dales Day out
We chose this tour based on our admiration for the newest All Creatures Great and Small series. Our driver/tour guide was amazing who had a personal connection to Alf Wight aka James Herriot. He took us to the museum in Thirsk which told us so much about the man behind the novels.

We then went for a drive to see some of the locations from the series and stopped in Grassington for lunch at the Devonshire pub which is the exterior for the "Drovers Arms" of the series. We had a delightful lunch there and then proceeded to drive into the Yorkshire Dales... We normally rent a car and do our own driving but it was so much more enjoyable to just sit back and view the fabulous scenery.

We made a stop at the Wensleydale Creamery on the way back where we sampled (and purchased) some excellent cheeses. They also have a wonderful gift shop.

This is a great tour and we would recommend it to anyone who is a James Herriot fan and even for people who don't know who he is. Kudos to Best of Britain for making our day out from York the best experience! Extremely professional and knowledgeable about Yorkshire. Highly recommended.

Highly Recommend!
The description of the meet point was clear, easy to find. The driver showed up early and welcomed us into a clean, warm van. He was knowledgeable and personable, sharing interesting details as we drove and on site, and he learned all our names and pointed out things that fit our personal interests throughout. The scenery was stunning. There was plenty of time to wander around and explore at our leisure. We had all the information we needed – where to find sites, restaurants, toilets. The cost was shockingly reasonable, not much (if at all) more than it would have cost us to use public transportation, but without the headache of figuring out schedules and wasted time. Really, it was a perfect day.

A Day Tour I won’t forget.
Absolutely fantastic day tour. Whitby was amazing. So too were the Heartbeat and Harry Potter highlights. Our guide was excellent and very informative. Small groups, we only ended up with 3 on our tour and we were told they never cancel for anyone, unless it is not possible for them to drive. I highly recommend them. Wish I had more time to do their other tours.

Wonderful day out from York
Fantastic day out to see Whitby and the Moors. Loved the ruins of Whitby Abbey. Mark the driver and guide was the best guide I’ve ever had. Book with confidence. I’ll be back.
